An intervention is a carefully planned process that may be done by family and friends, in consultation with a doctor or professional such as a licensed alcohol and drug counselor or directed by an intervention professional (interventionist).

Staging an intervention involves delicate balances between helping the drug-addicted person see how their actions have negative consequences while at the same time not offending the person. You don’t want to alienate the person because then they may go further into drug use, simple daily habits can make a difference.
